How do I store my fruit and vegetables in FridgeSmart?

Remove your fruit or veg from any packaging and then simply add them straight to the FridgeSmart container. Set the switch to the setting corresponding to the diagram on the container depending on what you’re storing. We recommend that you do not wash fruit and veg before storing it in FridgeSmart. Excess water can cause unnecessary moisture, which can affect how long your food lasts. The FridgeSmart system regulates moisture levels to keep your food fresher for longer, so just wash when you’re ready to eat.

For best results store on day of purchase and before the best before date.

Should I remove all the packaging before storing fruit/veg in FridgeSmart?

Yes, you should always remove all fruit and veg from its original packaging before storing in FridgeSmart.

Should I wash the fruit and veg before storing in FridgeSmart?

No, please don’t wash your fruit and veg before storing. The excess water/moisture will affect FridgeSmart’s performance.

Can I peel/slice/chop up fruit or veg before storing?

Please do not cut or peel fruit and veg before storing in FridgeSmart, this will make it go bad faster and prevent FridgeSmart from working effectively.  

Can I store different fruits/vegetables in the same container?

Foods from the same breather group – as indicated on the container and IM – can be stored together.

How do I know what setting to use?

Each FridgeSmart container has an easy-read diagram printed directly on the container showing which vent setting to use for different common fruits and vegetables.

What do the symbols mean?

FridgeSmart containers offer 3 venting options, so you can create the perfect storage conditions for all your favourite fruits and vegetables. On the diagram, the settings to use for different foods are represented by the symbols below:

Half Open: Align the tab with the half circle on the pictogram. Use this option for light venting for medium breathers.

Closed: Align the tab with the fully etched circle in the pictogram. Use this option for low breathers.


Fully Open: Align the tab with the hollow, glossy circle on the pictogram. Use this option for high breathers.


What does Not For Fridge mean?

A: Fruits and vegetables marked with an X on the chart, like bananas and butternut squash, should not be stored in the fridge and will do best when not stored in closed containers. Don't store these in your FridgeSmart.


How do I clean my FridgeSmart?

FridgeSmart should be cleaned after each use and just wipes clean with a soft cloth, or can go in the top shelf of a dishwasher. Ensure it's completely dry before using again.

Can I put FridgeSmart in the freezer?

FridgeSmart is not suitable for freezing but because it keeps all your fruit and veg fresher for longer in the fridge, you won’t need to freeze anything.

Can I put FridgeSmart in the microwave?

FridgeSmart is not suitable for microwaves. 

Can I put FridgeSmart in the dishwasher?

Yes, top shelf only.

How big are FridgeSmart containers?

FridgeSmart Extra Small measures W 10cm x H 6.2cm x L 13cm and has a capacity of 375ml, perfect for storing blueberries, raspberries and garden peas.

FridgeSmart Small measures W 14.2cm x H 6.8cm x L 18.8cm and has a capacity of 800ml, ideal for lemon and lime wedges, strawberries, or cherry tomatoes.

FridgeSmart Small Deep measures W 14.cm x H 13.4cm x L 18.8cm and has a capacity of 1.8L, perfect for everything from berries and grapes to cherry toatoes, and even some larger fruits and vegetables.

FridgeSmart Medium measures W 18.7cm x H 6.8cm x L 28.5cm and has a capacity of 1.8L, great for carrots, celery, asparagus, and larger quantities of strawberries etc.

FridgeSmart Medium Deep measures W 19cm x H 13.5cm x L 28.5cm and has a capacity of 4.4L, perfect for larger fruits and vegetables, or even big bags of spinach, lettuce or salad mix.
